LAKES DISTRICT HEALTH BOARD – ROTORUA HOSPITAL |
 |
 |
 |
Canmap Hawley Ltd has been part of the project team responsible for the upgrading of the Rotorua Hospital facilities. A Control Survey was undertaken to ensure the integrity of the data both for the initial topographical survey and also for all future topographic, asbuilt and setting out surveying that may be required.
Following the completion of the control survey a comprehensive topographic survey of the site was undertaken to provide an accurate base for the Architects master planning. As design progresses further detail surveys have been and continue to be required which Canmap Hawley have undertaken with all necessary care and expediency.
While the upgrading of the hospital is in a construction phase Canmap Hawley continues to be involved providing survey control, setout and surveying services to the main contractor, Mainzeal Construction. |

ROTORUA REGIONAL AIRPORT |
 |
 |
 |
Canmap Hawley has had a long involvement with the Rotorua Airport and we have continued that association recently by carrying out the flight path obstruction survey.
This survey, required periodically by the CAA, involved a detailed survey of all trees, power poles, houses or any other possible obstructions that might intrude into the specified flight path of incoming and departing airplanes. The efficient processing of the subsequent data utilized Canmap Hawley’s skills as spatial information managers to the full.
“With the Rotorua Regional Airport changing its status to an International Airport, the accuracy and attention to detail of Canmap Hawley’s survey was an essential component in the process to ensure that we comply with CAA and ICAO requirements.
The Team at Canmap Hawley offers an excellent service, they are very professional, knowledgeable and they come highly recommended by Rotorua Airport.”
GEORGE WHITE – CEO of Rotorua Regional Airport Ltd
As part of the development program at Rotorua Regional Airport Canmap Hawley has been responsible for a high accuracy survey of the runway and taxiways to create a detailed surface model. The model was then used as the basis for design of the runway resurfacing of which Canmap Hawley’s Client Consultant team were also involved.
An as-built plan of the whole aerodrome has also been developed by Canmap Hawley.
This will provide users of the runway the necessary information for safe use of the runway.

ROTORUA MUSEUM REDEVELOPMENT |
 |
 |
 |
Canmap Hawley has provided survey services for the Rotorua Museum throughout the investigation and design phases of the redevelopment. The detailed survey of the existing building and surrounding area has provided a quality foundation for design where attempting to match exactly into the existing building has been a demanding task for project lead architects and engineers, Sigma Consultants.
As the construction of the South wing continues Canmap Hawley has provided survey and set out services to the main contractor, Watts & Hughes. Canmap Hawley’s skills and experience in construction survey and set-out has meant that the construction process has continued without issue. |

Canmap Hawley Ltd played a key role in the client consultant team for the project with involvement with each phase of the project. Initial feasibility works included full topographic surveys of the site and processing the data to provide a contour model for engineering design.
Canmap Hawley Ltd was selected to provide surveying services to Hurlstone Earthmoving Ltd on the new Youth Justice facility on State Highway 30. The civil works for the project included widening of SH30 for turning, a 1.1km access road to the site and installation of a new stock underpass. MACIMAP – WEB BASED GIS |
 |
 |
 |
As part of the New Zealand Maori Arts & Crafts Institute’s (Te Puia) commitment to the highest standards of site management and cultural heritage conservation, Canmap Hawley has created a functional, everyday Geographic Information System for the Institute. This allows Te Puia to manage their resources, record their assets, and clearly give direction to staff. This GIS incorporates aerial photographs, land based survey, utility as-built data and cadastral (boundary) information into a system easily used by staff enabling effective data access across the organisation.

eastgate business park |
 |
 |
 |
This is a leading example
of a private market driven District Plan change procedure.
It has resulted in the construction of an environmentally
sustainable new industrial park on the outskirts or
Rotorua.
Following local developer Miles Nathan’s vision,
Canmap Hawley’s planner Mark Dyer provided complete
planning services in support of the rezoning of 22.5
hectares of horticultural land. This land is strategically
located in the Central North Island. It has been developed
opposite the Rotorua Regional Airport and at the start
of the new Rotorua Eastern Arterial. This route will
link the key industries in the Central North Island
with the Port of Tauranga, Mt Maunganui and to the
primary production and industrial heartland of the
Waikato.
The smart application of planning concepts has resulted
in a market driven development within the environmental
constraints agreed with the community. The Park provides
for less intervention by statutory authorities and
has enabled much needed industrial land opportunity.
Because of Canmap Hawley’s involvement, the development
of the Park has been achieved with limited costs and
in surprisingly little time spent between purchase
by the developer and physical development taking place.
“Mark Dyer’s skill
and unassuming determination is a great credit to him
and his Company”
Miles Nathan, Managing Director Eastgate Investments
Ltd.

waikato district council |
 |
 |
 |
Waikato District Council
have implemented a geographic information system which
includes information relating to resource management
rules. At present, these rules are spatially applied
with reference to a set of planning maps. The Council
chose Canmap Hawley to acquire, process and present
the authorative ‘master’ maps for this
purpose. Over the course of a 10 year period Canmap
Hawley have worked closely with the officers of Council
responsible for correctly publishing this information
to the public.
The effective combination of experienced professional
surveyors, cartographers and GIS/CAD technicians complemented
by our ISO 9000 quality management system provided
a high degree of confidence for the community in the
District’s administration. |

mamaku bluffs |
 |
 |
 |
Canmap Hawley Ltd was awarded
the surveying tasks for the Mamaku Bluffs realignment
project in January 2001 by Hurlstone Earthmoving Ltd
and took 2½ years to complete. The $2.3 million
dollar Transit NZ project was on SH 5, north west of
Rotorua city, along the Mamaku Plateau. The purpose
of the project was to realign a 2.5 km length of highway
to provide a safer highway, provide passing lanes in
both directions and creating better traffic flow.
Historical caves and native bush in the Scenic Reserve
were preserved. Some 290,000m3 of fill material was
moved, with the largest cut being a vertical height
of 15metres.
Canmap Hawley team undertook set out services, volume
checks and as-builts and at times our field staff responding
within minimal response times. The combined skills
of Canmap Hawley, Hurlstone Earthmoving and Meritec
resulted in constructing a safer and user friendly
Mamaku Bluff State Highway for all.

DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATION |
 |
 |
 |
Canmap Hawley Ltd were commissioned to provide planning expertise in creating a management plan for three outstanding reserves in the Eastern Bay of Plenty - Moutohora (Whale Island) Wildlife Reserve, Ohope Scenic Reserve and Tauwhare Pa Scenic Reserve.
This was a leading example; being the first conservation management plan in New Zealand resulting from a Treaty Settlement where a joint management committee was formed.
Canmap Hawley's Planner Jason Ward provided professional planning services in support of creating a Management Plan that was 'owned' by the Joint Management Committee with wide public support. The Management Plan will be used to guide management of these three Reserves over the next 10 years.
"Jason played a key role in the development of a Statutory Management Plan as a result of Treaty of Waitangi settlement legislation. In that often contentious and contemporary environment, his organisational, communication, and professional skills as a planner and writer were greatly appreciated by both the Department and Iwi Maori." Mike Bodie, Bay of Plenty Conservancy Solicitor, Department of Conservation.
