ABOUT US |
 |
 |
 |
We are
a group of highly motivated people led by well experienced
land professionals who love the lifestyle of New Zealand’s
Coromandel and Rotorua/Bay of Plenty.
Our company has its origins back in the early 1900’s.
It retains land information records from that date.
The ‘Can’ in Canmap comes from James Canning.
James was the Chief Draughtsman for all the Crown lands
and forests administered by the NZ Forest Service.
He led the dramatic changes in technology used for
mapping and spatial analysis. After the demise of the
Forest Service James went out on his own under the
name of Canmap Information Services. Later, Rotorua
surveyor Fergus Cumming purchased Canmap Information
Services and the Tokoroa and Rotorua operations of
Harrison Grierson Consultants. Fergus was then joined
by Mark Dyer. In 1999 Canmap purchased
well established Rotorua surveying firm Phipps Hawley
and changed the company name to Canmap Hawley. |

Peter
Hawley. (MNZIS, RS
Fiji). Director
Peter is one of the Directors of the company, and has been working as a Rotorua
based surveyor for more than thirty years, most of this in his own private
practice. He obviously knows the surveying industry very well, and he has
a wealth of experience in property development in the Bay of Plenty. Peter
has also worked in Fiji.
Peter is well known in the Rotorua community, not only through his work as
a surveyor, but also as a result of active participation in many community
organizations, and as a Justice of the Peace.
People who know Peter describe him as an affable person, who is easy to talk
to. We see Peter as a straight shooter, who likes to come to the point quickly.
Peter now spends his time on the Coromandel coast. |
